Cultivate vibrant communities, just food systems, and healthy kids

Welcome to the Farm to School Institute Adaptation Handbook: Shelburne Farms Institute for Sustainable Schools’ go-to resource for the adaptation of the Vermont FEED* Farm to School Institute model.

This handbook was developed to help farm to school adapters across the U.S. access the knowledge, tools, and insights developed through the Northeast Farm to School Institute for the last 10+ years.

Our goal: to share the information and provide the support you need to design your own Institute, based on your unique context.

Rooted in our professional learning philosophy, this handbook walks you through the Farm to School Institute’s five core components and offers guidance on how to adapt them to meet your local context and goals. By preserving the Northeast Farm to School Institute’s evidence-based best practices while allowing for flexibility, you can create a customized Institute that offers a transformative experience for farm to school practitioners in your area.

Additionally, we’ll offer tools to help you tackle evaluation and fund your program.

*The Farm to School Institute model was created by Vermont FEED, a partnership of NOFA-VT and Shelburne Farms Institute for Sustainable Schools.
